Appropriate level of formality
Okay,...the Too Traditional thread got me thinking about the proper level of formality for an event I'll be attending kilted.
I'll be going to Whisky Live, and attend to wear a kilt. My plan into wear my MacKintosh Hunting with lovat green hose, tartan flashes, a tattersall, and a lovat green tweed. Undecided if I'll add a tie. Appropriate?
Option 2: same kilt and flashes, but with black hose, white shirt, and a charcoal waist coat (if my source has one today). I may add a tie, too. Appropriate?
Option 3: this is the most casual option, and last on my list of possible options. Blackwatch kilt, green hose, black flashes, and a navy blue jumper. Well?
All of these options will be with black leather.
Not sure what the appropriate level of formality for this event is. I figure it's somewhat casual. I hope so, because I don't have an formal wear.
Anyway, opinions please.

So, IF, you were not going to wear the kilt what would you wear to the event?

I looked up their site to see if they had any photos of previous events, to see what people were wearing. No luck. So I just went to Google Images and searched for Whisky Live. Got lots of photos. It looks like people dress from very casual (untucked shirts and shorts) up to suits and ties. So it appears to be an "anything goes" type event, in terms of dress.
That said, I'd still dress up a little. I'd wear a tie.

Good point, Jock. If I weren't going to wear a kilt I'd probably wear a tattersall with a pair of cords, my houndstooth sport coat, and a tie.
Pretty much in line with what I was planning to wear kilted.
Thanks.

Right then, the thing to remember and many don't, is that what you are planning to wear, Kilt Jacket and tie wise, is the kilt equivalent of a suit. It matters not what the tweed colour is, or the cut of your day jacket(which can be worn quite happily to non formal evening events) you are in effect wearing a suit.
So you could dress it all down a tad by wearing the tweed jacket but not wearing a waistcoat and not wear a tie, or do wear a tie, it matters not.
I think if it were me, I would wear a nice pullover and if it was a V neck then with a tie and if it was a "crew" neck then with a tie with the collar in, or without a tie with the top shirt button undone and collar out------assuming you don't have those dreadfull button down things!

Option 1 gets my vote! Have a wonderful time.
Or, perhaps attire along the lines of the chap seen with Her Majesty below? The great, Cameron Ormiston (I am friends with his son, Ruaridh Ormiston of Newtonmore, Inverness-shire). Aw well, I'm just kidding! I thought I'd throw this photo into "the mix" for Jock.

Cheers,

Gosh Kyle, I did not know Cameron had passed away! When did that happen? I am sure that I saw him in August at the Blair Atholl horse show, perhaps it was his ghost!
