Hello all! I signed up a couple of weeks ago but haven't posted yet so here goes.
My wife and I are both of Scottish decent (or so we were told by our families). However, I didn't know until a few years ago that my ser name, Simpson (no, I'm not related to Homer), is part of the Fraser Clan. My wife’s clan association is Stewart (McMunn). We are both very interested in our heritage and the history of our families and their clan connections.
We are proud to be Scottish and like to immerse ourselves in the culture that surrounds it. We enjoy attending Celtic festivals and Burns dinners, and I've recently acquired a couple of 'utility' style kilts (non-tartan). They are great for festivals, picnics and parties and, until I can afford to purchase a good Fraser tartan kilt, I'm going to try to dress them up a bit for some of the more formal events (Burns dinners) we attend.
How far can you dress up with a utility kilt? Maybe a tweed jacket, a long tie and perhaps a semi-formal sporran; I don't know? I used to attend these events in a suit and tie (Fraser tartan plaid tie, of course).
Anyway, I'll be perusing the boards to learn more about this and other aspects of modern Scottish culture and dress. Hope to chat with some of you.
