Kilts on the Bob & Tom Show

Kilts were discussed on the nationally syndicated "Bob and Tom" radio show this morning (10/10/12). It all started with a discussion of the origin of pants and what was worn before that. Of course, one of them said dresses were worn and due to their ignorance (which is typical of most people, regarding their understanding of the kilt), the discussion went wild around men wearing dresses. Finally, one of their guests spoke up and mentioned that men wore kilts (and the like) in the past, and a brief discussion of kilts ensued. Someone implied that we should go back to those times and that all men should wear kilts. (Good idea, but...)

Did any of you here this today?

The program is a morning, comedy talk show (that I listen to on the way to work) with the four personalities and various guests poking fun at things so, they are not very serious most of the time. What struck me was that only one person out of perhaps 6 or 7 people in the studio spoke up and identified the kilt. Of course, I immediately thought of kilt when the subject of pants first came up but, the reality is that most people wouldn't.

I thought that I might visit the "Bob & Tom" facebook page and post a comment about kilts and kilt wearers if I can. Kilt wearing won't necessarily become main-stream but, I like to seize any opportunity to promote kilt wearing and to help dispel any misconceptions others might have of those who wear them.

Very interesting. I am not familiar with the radio show but any discussion that informs the public and repeats the idea is likely to make it more ordinary to the folk.

Nile , Bob and Tom are quite funny , they are based out of Indinapolis , IN . They came to Indy back in the early 80s and went nationally syndicated about 6 or 7 years ago . If you post to their facebook , you might mention to them that they can see a lot of us in kilts this Saturday at the Indianapolis Highland Games , right in their own back yard .

That's right Mike, they are funny and they get some great guests on the show.

Thanks for the information on the Indianapolis Highland Games.

I actually was listening at this time as well. I'm surprised they didn't go more into the wearing of kilts. Funny show though

    Nile , Phillips ,

The entire Bob and Tom show used to do a spring break trip every year back in the 90s and broadcast live every morning for a week from a resort in Fort Lauderdale . They would do a contest prior to the trip whereby you could fill out a card and drop it in a box at local Indianapolis car dealers and names would be drawn from the boxes .

There would be 20 winners and each winner would get to go along with the show on spring break along with a second person per winner ( friend , spouse , etc . ) , airfare paid and resort rooms paid for all . ( at the time they weren't nationally syndictaed , just airing all over Indiana )

In 1991 , I ended up winning a trip , I was 33 at the time . The trip was a blast ! There were winners from all walks of life and all age groups , people in their 20s all the way up to people in their 60s . It was a zany week , all good fun !

I was a kiltie back at that time , but I didn't take a kilt with me , I figured wool and beach sand wasn't a good mix ! Oddly enough , I actually met a retired couple on the trip that had moved to Indiana from Glasgow , Scotland !

I listen to them as well, and shall with hold my comments on show decline in recent years....

I missed this bit, but will say that unless you are a subscriber to their pay site good luck getting anything in front of them in a reasonable time frame.
