Kilted at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon
Drove over this weekend with a ladyfriend - last open weekend of the year. Just 114 narrow, twisty, drop off, forested, miles from home.

Wore my Royal Air Force tartan hand sewn by Kathy Lare. 16 ounce from Strathmore Woolen Mills.

This is Angel's Window at Cape Royal. That really is the Colorado River showing through the window. And yup, you can walk out above it with sheer drops to oblivion on three sides. Rocks are rough enough and the fence old enough to keep you focused on where you are.

Here's a pic of Mt. Hayden (the pointy thing in the foreground) from Point Imperial

This is the Unkar Delta in the center of the pic along the Colorado River. Ancient people lived here from 850 to 1200 or so. Its the largest settlement evidence in the Grand Canyon.

In the background, far horizon are the San Francisco Peaks by Flagstaff, Arizona. They're about 70 miles south. Check out the snow cap already at 11,000 feet +

This pic is at Vista Encantada. What I like about it is how typical it is of the edge of the North Rim.

Here's a pic of a Kaibab Mule Deer crossing the road up by East View. Check out the snow already at 8,800 feet and the yellow in the aspens.
Here's a crop of the deer

Here's the obligatory North Rim sign at the visitors center...

And last, what I love most about kilts - the swish of a 16 ounce hand sewn kilt. This on the Point Imperial Trail.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
