    Thoughts on Studying Tartan

I'm kind of frustrated with the way this topic is covered on the web. The Scottish Tartan Authority site is a great resource, but I find the database cumbersome. I want to be able to compare tartans and I feel like the technology should help. I have Scarlett's Clans and Tartans and I'm regularly check out other books from the library, but bound books don't let me do what I want either.

I'm starting to put together a notebook on my iPad in Evernote, which I've needed an excuse to learn for awhile now. I'm copying Setts from the STA site and pasting them into Evernote pages tagged by theme.

    Any suggestions?

Well I can understand, for I too feel the limitations of what's out there.

What's so cool about this forum is that the experts here can usually sort out a specific tartan if a query is made. For example I did a couple Isle of Arran tartan threads to attempt to sort out the confusing variety of tartans which are all obvious variants of one design.

What I dislike is the rather crude-looked computer-generated tartans one sees, which there's no need for, because one can generate very nice-looking clothlike tartans with certain tartan generators.
