    Walking stick

I have made a walking stick using the attaching crown end of a deer antler and a hardwood staff cut to length, I walk with a cane. Would this be OK for formal gatherings or would something else be more appropriate?

I think that if you walk with a cane, a custom made stick would be pretty much appropriate for any occasion. A picture would be nice.

I'm a huge fan of walking sticks and staffs and own a number of them (though in truth they have been canes for me for the last month).

I happen to have made for myself a deer antler crown walking stick out of a cheap stick I picked up that had an ugly brass head I removed. I think it would work well for a formal event

here are a couple of photos

I made this out of a Ram's Horn and Sycamore.

Sticks such as Jamie is "modelling" are widely available with a LONGER shaft in outdoor activities shops in Scotland for hiking or general country living. The length he is showing would seem to me to be fine for formal use though I just use an ordinary walking stick on these occasions myself. I've never seen the ramshorn style in Scotland but there's certainly nothing "wrong" with such a design.

This is the one I made some 35 years ago -

I discovered that I had lost 1 1/2 inches in that time through use. So I added this Alpine spike and rubber ferrule.

I think a hand made looking stick looks far better than any shop bought.

    Regards

    Chas
