Steampunk "belt bag" Tandy pattern available

Not sure what the finished size is (Riverkilt would have something to say about that lack of info!) but this might be interesting. Presumably could be scaled up if their pattern is too small.

That's too bad because I really like the photo on their website. I would dig a steampunk sporran like that--not too extreme but a little different.

I'm fairly familiar with Tandy, and just recently I found that they have a video series on leather crafting, at http://www.leathercraftlibrary.com If you subscribe, and it costs about $10 for one month, they have a series on making the Steampunk items. In order to get the gear pattern, you would also have to by what they call a Craftaid Pattern, which has the gears and some other symbold, moulded into a plastic sheet. You place the sheet over moistened leather and then rub on it to impress the pattern into the damp leather. There are other steampunk designs on the Craftaid as well. (Sydnie7, I hope I'm not disrespecting your skills and experience with this detailed commentary, but there may be others who are not familiar with the subject.)
Other videos describe how to prepare the leather, stamp border designs, and finish the bag. It is not a beginners leatherwork project, but for anyone with some tools and experience it is not very complicated.

Anyway, I'm not really into Steampunk, but if anyone wants to try it themself, I'd be happy to offer advice or assistance. With a different gussett, the pattern could be made more like a traditional sporran.

That's what I liked most about it, Tom--that is resembles a traditional sporran and keeps the flair to a minimum...but still has some.

That little lock is 2" tall, so I'd estimate that the bag is roughly 6.5" tall by 6" wide.

A_Hay! is correct- with most all of Tandy's patterns the bag/project is separate from tooling or decoration.

Think it's funny - if you click on the "supply list" for this and "buy it all" as recomended. the total cost is about $880 plus the 2 bucks for the pattern. A lot of the list is unneeded or already owned by most, but you have to uncheck a lot of stuff to keep from buying it.

Without the gears and that ugly latch that could make a nice sporran.
