Sheaf Fork on it's way... now what?

Ok, so I have a 1930's 3-tine (We aren't allowed to use 2-tines here in Southeast) hay fork head on it's way.

Which made me start thinking... "Oh crap, now what?"

Googling for anything about how to install a new handle on an old hay fork is like trying to win the lottery without playing...

    Any suggestions?

My guess would be to use a shovel handle, either full-length or the short, T-grip style. You'd better check the rule books to see what they say about handle length, etc. You wouldn't want to practice with a particular handle length, only to find out at the Games that it isn't allowed.

Go to the local Home Depot or whatever is near you and pick up a replacement handle.

I trim mine to a comfortable length so I'm not lugging around this long old fishing pole. I also wrap athletic tape around the grip and where I'll grab the fork tines. Feels more comfortable if you can get a good grip on the fork. I've seen other throwers use split garden hose and other things on the fork head. Whatever gives you a good grip.

... Roger, on this board actually fitted a branch off of some tree to his fork handle. I have no idea how he did it, but it's unique!!
