I need expert advice!
Hello all,
I have come across a daywear jacket and waistcoat that is very cheap. The arm length is good. The chest however is a size too small. The overall length of the jacket seems a bit long by a few inches. Is it possible for a tailor to take some off the length, using my existing jacket as a template and using that material to extend the chest measurement???
Kind regards
G

The cost to do this would be way more than it's worth, and I'm not even sure if the chest size can be expanded. From what I've read before, expanding the chest is not an option. You can't just splice in a new piece at the seam, at least not without expecting it to look like a cobbled-together mess. But then again, I'm not a tailor, so maybe there's some way of doing it that I'm not aware of.
I've noticed that most people wear jackets with chest sizes which are too large for them, and when they find a jacket that actually fits properly, they think it's too small. A jacket of this type doesn't need to be buttoned, and can actually look a lot better when it's sized to where it would be a VERY snug fit when buttoned. Really, if it fits comfortable across the shoulders and back when worn open, it's about right.

You are better to find a jacket that is too large than too small. A tailor can remove all the material necessary to make it fit properly.
