Sportkilt sizes-Large too big for straps

Just received my first Sportskilt! After going by instructions on sizing on the site I ordered a large as I was at a 34/35" waist at the belly button. had the WORKS ordered so that included the leather straps.
Problem is that the straps are useless when using the Velcro and making it tight . i sent an email to them and wanted to at least let them know but really no fault of theirs but a crap shoot on my part being on that medium/large line.
I'm a smaller fellow at 5'7 and 160 but figured I'd go for large.

Anyone else have this issue and if so, figure a way to make the straps work, say relocating them back a few inches?

The kilt itself, BTW, is marvelous and I love the tartan! Worth the price and i can see it being great for running.
Thank goodness the velcro is part of it as I could not wear it with straps alone. I have to hike it up a bit more this way.

I have two SportKilts and one USAKilts (casual) and I don't have straps on any of the three. I do like the Velcro for "comfort" size adjustments. I, too, was almost at a tweener size - ordered the large from SportKilt and they work well. I am also on a weight loss track (30 pounds down in the last year) and for my next order I may try the medium size.

I am a "casual" kilt wearer (for the most part) and usually have a sweater or a leather vest covering the waistband. Straps would be hidden (on me) so I didn't bother to order them. I do, however, like the sewn down pleat option that costs a tad bit more with SportKilt.

If you are too busy to laugh, you are too busy.

I have two Works Sportkilts, (1) XL and (1) L. When I started this obsession my waist was 46 inches, now its 37. Most of the time I wear the L but I can still wear the XL over a rugby shirt or something bulky like that. I should say most of the time that I'm wearing a sportkilt as I have two wool kilts that I wear most often. Like I said Obsession.

You could move the buckles back an inch or so pretty easily.

As a person caught between sizes at 33-34, the one issue I have with the Original, Comfy and Hiking kilts is the finished waist size seems to vary up and down - about 2 inches! Even with the same tartan. Have had to pick the sewdown out of some of the MLs (too tight in the hips, pleats go wonky) and wear a belt with some of the Larges. Have yet to buy any of the strap SKs as I use them for house and yard kilts mostly.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Fortunately an email to Sportkilt resulted in a delightful request to send it back and they would alter it for me a few inches on the straps as well as the inside Velcro hopefully. This will make it fit snug like it should be. Granted. it is not going to fit like a made to order kilt like the one I'm having done in Scotland by House of Edgar. But the SK is a delight and I applaud them for the customer service. I should get it back by next weekend. I'll let all know how things went.
