Victorian, Highland Pipe Band Championships 2013

On Sunday, 24 March 2013, the Victorian Pipe Band Championships were held at Haileybury College in the south east suburbs of Melbourne. There were four divisions, Juvenille, Grade 4, Grade 3 and Grade 2.

Here are some photos of the bands competing

    Grade 3
City of Melbourne Highland Highland Pipe band - Tartan Logan/McLennan

Scotch College - Tartan Gordon (They also a juvenille grade band)

Williamstown RSL pipes and Drums - Tartan Robertson

One for all the flatcappers out there. One of the international judges, from New Zealand but born in Ireland, was wearing a flat cap during the morning competition. At the luncheon interval I managed to have a chat with him and queried the flat cap. He told me that he had left his glengarry at his hotel and he need a cover because of the hot morning sun were having at the competition. After the competition resumed he managed to borrow a glengarry from someone and wore that the the remainder of the day

Haileybury Pipes and Drums - Tartan Haileybury (also a juvenile grade band playing in grade 3)

University of Ballarat - Tartan Caledonian

    Grade 2
Hawthorn City Pipes and Drums - Tartan McKenzie

Moorabbin City Pipes and Drums - Tartan - Bruce (Current Australian Grade 2 Champions)

They have a 12 member drum corps

Pipe Band Club of NSW travelled to melbourne to try and usurp the local talent - Taran Mac Donald of Clanranald

Some great pics DU. It must have been a glorious time to be at this event. I am so very envious. Also, has already been said, thanks for naming all the different tartans and also thanks for showing the aprons and the pleats in the pics. That made the pics that much more enjoyable.

Thanks for taking the time to post all the pictures. It is nice to have the bands and tartans identified. Now, if you could just add sound . . .
