Hunting MacPherson kilt
I just shipped this one out this morning. I thought I'd post it here, for our resident MacPhersons. It's a 5 yard Kingussie pleated kilt, in the Hunting MacPherson tartan, heavy weight. The interesting thing about this cloth is that it has a teasle raised finish, making it feel almost like regimental weight cloth, even though it is worsted.
I actually have about 5 yards, 28" wide, left of this cloth if anyone might be interested...
As you know I sometimes like to pair up hose color recommendations with the tartans I am working with. With this one, many would opt for grey or black. Here's a photo with a mid-grey pair of Lewis hose.
It looks good, as would black or charcoal. But not that exciting. I'd be more inclined to wear a pair of hose that tones with one of the minor stripes of the tartan, such as this pair of loval blue Lewis hose.
Or my favorite, claret! This is a cooler shade of red than the red in the tartan, but I think it works quite well and I actually prefer this to the brighter red hose that are also available.

MacPherson htg - 5yds left over
Hi Matt,
I think MacPhersons should have first dibs, but if you don't get inundated, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands. Important considerations: is 28" wide enough for a 24 1/2" long kilt? what is the dimension of the sett repeat? who wove the material, and is the selvedge tuck or true? how much are you asking for it?
Thank you for the opportunity,
Grizzled Ian

Still one of my favorite tartans. For a long time I had thought that one of my great grandmothers' lines was a sept of the MacPhersons, only to discover that they were actually from Ireland... nevertheless, I have a feeling I'll wind up with an "honorary" hunting MacPherson kilt someday.

Wow! I have always dug that tartan. Nice work, Matt!
I am pre-order-jonesing for a Shaw Modern pleated in the Kingussie fashion...or maybe reverse Kingussie. What is the difference?

Matt, Thanks for the photos. The kilt looks great. I'm making Macpherson hunting for my guys. I think it's a classy tartan.

Grizzled Ian,
Sorry for the delay in responding here. Yes, 28" is more than wide enough to make you a 24.5" long kilt. It's a traditional suck selvage, woven by D. C. Dalgliesh. For more info, I suggest emailing me at matt@newhousehighland.com
I have one other person interested in a kilt. Depending on the style of kilts wanted, I may have enough to satisfy you both, we just need to work out the details.
Aye,
Matt
