We're going to Scotland!
My daughter and I play, (two years now), with a small local band, she a snare drummer and I a piper and bass drummer. She is very very good. She was asked to join a larger regional band - Catamount from Vermont - to go to Scotland to compete at Perth, North Berwick and Worlds. I have not had a vacation in six years so I am going with her.
She will be working and playing most of the time. I will probably help them out a bit but I will also be touring around taking in the culture and the people. I look forward to seeing Alex Cunningham, (cessna152towser), and KiltFitz while there as well as anyone else I can meet.
We will arrive Wednesday, 7 August and leave Monday, 19 August. I will attempt to post photos as we go.

Congratulations! Sounds like you and your daughter are in for a wonderful time. Will you be doing any piping/drumming while in Scotland? Can't wait to see the pics. Say "hi" to Alex and KiltFitz for us.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

This will be extensive and I have a lot to do, so bear with me. First let me say that I have paid a lot of attention to the postings on this site and they have been very useful to me. I LOVE SCOTLAND!!!! I just want to go back.
We went to Glasgow, an ancient and industrial city. I took no pants. I was usually the only person to be seen wearing a kilt, as had been predicted. In twelve days I had perhaps two cat-calls from immature / drunk people. I had tourists ask for a photo with them. I had locals ask for a photo with them. In spite of being out quite late some nights it was just fine.

Security found the kilt a little threatening and so I required hand-searching in both Boston and Heathrow. It was a little slower but fine. My daughter took delight in it.

It is extremely useful to have a local source of information and Fitz and his lovely lady were gracious and friendly company. My daughter and I arrived with two other drummers and while I made contact with Fitz we walked a bit to get cash, groceries and our sea-legs.

Fitz and Shona met up with us at the Grosvenor Cafe.

Though we had a good meal at the Grosvenor, Fitz steered us to a couple proper community public houses - we started at the Three Judges - fantastic beer selection!
