Best Regards from Minnesota!
I have been lurking for several months and making use of the Forum's great resources, and figured it was time to join up.
Who am I? I am a middle-aged guy from Minnesota with a great family and a couple dogs. The name? I've played bass clef instruments for about 40 years; it is my favorite pass-time. Part of what brought me here was historical. Kilts are cool, but I felt the need for a connection before diving in. I know it is just clothing, but it is also history, and honoring history is important.
My lineage has a bunch of ties through both sides of my family and my wife's. My father's side, I have learned, would be Galician (Austria); my maternal great-grandmother was a Johnston, and my grandmother's family would be a sept of the Davidsons. My wife's family is more distinctly Irish/German, but appears as a sept of the Gordons. I grew up in McLeod county and lived near Campbell Lake. That's six tartans I figure I can wear without guilt!
So there you go.
I'm looking forward to getting to know the group, and perhaps contributing something useful, or at least entertaining.
All the best,
F:Clef

Greetings ƒ:Çlef, and welcome form, Delaware. That was a wonderful introduction. Researching your family roots is interesting and fun and, in my opinion, the best place to start when considering a tartan. Of course, XMTS will be another useful resource for you.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle.
