    Day jacket from Tartan4less

    Hi Guys,

after some time thinking of where to get a proper day jacket I tried tartan4less again.
    Here are the first pictures.
The fit is not pefect but good. Service was 1st class.

The colour is a bit darker in reality.

    Tom

Yes mine turned out fine in the end, and for the money I am really pleased with the fit and quality. How did you get a different tweed? I thought they only did loden crag.

    Hey Simon!

Fine...I would be interested to see a picture...especially of your buttons, they are real, aren't they?
It is Loden Crag...the colours turn out a bit too light on my picture.

Tom, they did send me the buttons eventually although they are imitation stag horn, had them fixed locally and will probably swap them for real stag horn when I get round to it. At least I now have a wearable jacket. Here is a picture of me wearing the jacket with my Cameron of Erracht weathered kilt made by Paul Henry.

Simon! You look splendid...I dare say a perfect outfit.
I love the colours of your kilt!

Yes, I am also thinking about real horn buttons instead though the imitation buttons don't look cheap.

I was wondering what happened with your order because I always found their service exemplary... Glad for you things went well.

So I'll think of you when wearing my jacket for the first time...sunday of next week probably. I will be at the British Day in Hamburg.

    Cheers, Tom

I have the same set. Mine was very, very late. They at one point refunded half my money, then all of it and when it arrived nearly 3 months late, I paid them 70% of the original price, so not all bad.

It did not fit at all well, however and I required:

to have the crappy shoulderpads (which my local alterations tailor told me were inferior and used for women's dresses mainly) replaced,

the arms shortened, even though I had requested short in my specs

the chest tightened (something I have never required for any other jackets. My chest is definitely not getting smaller).

Since I received it, the material has carried an overwhelming smell of curry spices, as if it had previously been the curtains across the kitchen of my local tandoori restaurant. A dry-clean has lessened this somewhat but it's still detectable. As this material is supposed to be made in the UK, I am quite curious about this, especially given the delay in receiving it.

    Anyway, here it is (post-alteration):

@Kiltfitz:Sorry to hear you had such trouble.

The fit of mine is also not perfect but I would consider this normal for the tailor never saw me or measured me personally...
The fabric is as far as I know woven by Marton Mills...mine has a smell of wool fat but thats not unusual for a heavy wool fabric.
And after all it is a very reasonably priced alternative to other vendors.
And I find them always very friendly, willing and helpful.

Hope you still enjoy your set after all this!

Thanks Tom, I am now well pleased although I think my next purchase will be elsewhere as I have a hankering for something in Harris Tweed.

Yeah, I think the tweed is from Marton Mills too, but something happened to it between it leaving there and getting to me. It definitely reeks of curry. As a fat Glaswegian, curry is a very familiar aroma to me. Although I don't imagine it left the UK, I have my suspicions about who it is making it for T4L. The price would back up those suspicions I guess.
