    Picking the right jacket

I am debating making my first kilt myself or having one made. My question for this post is, is there suck a thing as a multi use jacket? Something that could be worn for nice day wear as well as semi formal evening wear. Mostly I'm looking for something I can wear to a wedding, funeral, christenings, dinners, and maybe once or twice a year for dinners on a cruise. As of now I have 2 suits that serve these purposes interchangeably. Living in Florida things tend to be a little more casual. Im on a budget but want something that will last and I'll be able to wear more then once a year. Is there anything out there like this?

    Thank you ahead of time
    Capt Derek

    Black Argyll would work perfectly.

I found a Black Cashmere jacket in a thrift store and had it converted to a Argyll.Click image for larger version.

The Argyll jacket bests serves that purpose (for me, anyway). You can wear it to a Burn's dinner or a wedding with a white shirt, vest, and bow tie, or dress it down - no vest, non-white shirt (eg tattersall), standard tie, or even no tie at all. For maximum versatility across a range of formality, black is probably the optimal color.

For a more authoritative explanation, see ...

    Good luck on your choice.

argyll jacket can be worn to almost anything in the US. the trads might disagree, but a charcoal grey or black argyll jacket with vest can be had at a good value, esp if you are ok with former rentals ("ex hire"). nevertheless, the best custom items are from the sponsors.

    I'd suggest a tweed Argyll, especially a non-black one.

The black barathea argyll jacket and waistcoat is tradtionally the equivalent of the morning suit, so if you normally wear a morning suit to weddings, funerals, christenings, dinners, then that would be what you want. Otherwise go with tweed.

A tweed Argyle will cover anything short of black tie.

If you would like something more like a suit coat how about the jacket in the middle?

I have them in stock in Charcoal and they can be made in about 38 different fabrics including Black Barathea, Tweeds of blues, greens, browns and grays and 22 different windowpane Tweeds.

One of the things I like to do is mix up my vests.

This lets you use the same jacket yet achieve a totally different look.

Or wear it without the vest.

Oh, and by the way---If anyone is good with photoshop we have been told we need to put a big fiery explosion behind us in the first photo.
