How's the look?
I hope I'm posting this in the right section, but here we go! I've owned a USA Kilts semi-trad for a little less than a month now. Normally I dress pretty casually (not sloppy, though) when I'm going to school or visiting home (jeans and t-shirt). However, I can't bring myself to wear a t-shirt with a kilt. It just doesn't look right to me so I try to dress fairly smart as my budget allows. Anyway, these few pics were taken on a recent outing to Chicago with my lass. They were taken at a dinner cruise on the lake with my girlfriend's brother and his girl. Any critiques? Don't worry, you can be candid, you're not going to offend me.

And here's a shot of me playing the largest game of jenga I've ever seen
P.S.: I have a charcoal tweed jacket and waistcoat set on order from USAK

Well.... you've got the right accessories - a lovely lass on your arm and a beer in the other.

David I think you have done very well, you look comfortable which is an achievement in itself. The one thing I would change is your footwear, a smart pair of oxfords or brogues would look far better and raise the level of sartorial elegance. This is just my humble opinion and is worth diddly squat compared to some of our more learned members. But it's a great start well done.

I wholeheartedly agree about getting a nice pair of oxfords. What I have on now are a well worn pair of sketchers in dark brown (almost black) leather. I do have a pair of black loafers that I would say are business casual, and I'm waiting on a black sporran from the STM gift shop (oh, the jones).
I was easily the best dressed gent on the cruise and the kilt got loads of compliments and positive attention.

As it well should have. Allow me to be "candid". It looks great and so do you. Congratulations. If you want to upgrade your footwear, by all means do so. That's up to you.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Thank you all for the input, it's appreciated! I think my footwear is satisfactory for now until my black day sporran, tweed jacket and waistcoat get here. After that I definitely need to get some nice oxfords. Does anybody have any suggestions on places I can go to get a pair of quality oxfords?

Any department store which carries men's shoes should have some nice oxfords. I got a pair of brogued boots at JC Penney's a year or so ago, and you might even find a decent pair at Sear's or somewhere like that. Of course you can also try a shoe store, including some of the less-expensive, all-kinds-of-shoes stores.

These are the pair of loafers I was talking about. They're a pair of Dockers I got from the local shoe store. Could these be worn with a tweed jacket and look sharp? Personally I think they are a little too busy and the rubber sole kind of bugs me, but they would be perfect for a nice long pub crawl. Opinions of the rabble?
