My Day....
Today is my bithday("older than my teeth but younger than my gums" to borrow a quote) and my wife and I took off work to just 'to do something'. My father-in-law had a casino visit planned to Lousiana but it was cancelled at the last minute. So with us being free I ask him if he wanted to go to a casino in Oklahoma we had talked about visiting. It being a day off and my birthday I dressed in a bright red polo shirt and my Dress Campbell USAKilt and off we went. After getting there I had 3 different casino personnel come up and ask if it was our first time and offered suggestions on making our day fun. This in itself did not seem odd but we did get more attention that others walking in the door. After getting set we walked around to get the 'lay of the land' and I did notice more than several 'looks'. I guessed there wern't many kilted lads in Oklahoma so I just walked around like I owned the place. One woman asked what Clan, another younger woman just smiled and watched as I passed, I did turn a head or two today. As I played slots, I should say as I lost money playing slots, an older man and woman walked by and asked with an English accent if I happened to be from Scotland. I told him no, but my family was and I was upholding a tradition. We talked for a few more minutes and he politely said, "Carry on lad." and walked off. That made me feel good. After losing the rest of the money we headed home. On the way I stopped at a local Best Buy to buy my birthday DVD for myself and the woman checking out looked up and asked if I had heard of Utilikilt. I told her that I infact owned one and enjoyed it. She then started talking about her boyfriend that had one and how he wore it around the house doing things. The way we were talking I was afraid that the manager would get on her but as I have posted before, people do open up to a man in a kilt. Yes, today had several things to note, in some cases a birthday kilts IS better than a birthday suit, Oklahoma needs more guys in kilts running around it and last but not least take your father-in-law with you to a public place while your in a kilt and watch him not know what to do! Yes, my father in law is still trying to figure out me in a kilt. I keep telling him that I'm trying to broaden his horizons, guess I'll keep working on this. This was my day....
