Gemma Jones
A new tartan designed by Gemma Jones appeared today on the Scottish Register of Tartans. See ...
http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...aspx?ref=10925
In case you don't know, Gemma Jones is an excellent and prolific actress who appeared in two of my favorite shows - "The Duchess of Duke Street" and Emma Thompson's superb rendition of "Sense and Sensibility".
I found the stated Restrictions and Registration notes interesting. The latter tell us that the threadcount and colors have meaning to the registrants, but further details are kept private.
The Restrictions inform us that the tartan is registered with the Intellectual Property Office, to me a notice that anyone who wears/weaves the tartan without proper permission may have to answer to lawyers hired by Ms. Jones. She probably has the resources to do that.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I really appreciate her. She a great actress.
A very nice tartan.

Nice looking Tartan. It is like a monochrome sibling of the Jones family tartan that I've ordered from USA Kilts.

I am not familiar with Gemma Jones, but now I'll have to read up on her. Joneses must keep up with one another.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had not noticed the similarity, because I was not familiar with the Jones tartan. Also, it did not occur to me to search the SRT for the Jones tartan.
I wonder if her husband, presumably a Scot, hails from a "gray-granite" part of Scotland, and thus the "monochrome" portion of the new tartan. Too bad the Registration notes are quiet on this subject.

A lovely tartan but are you sure it is Gemma Jones the actress?
Actress Gemma is 70 years of age, and a widow with a grown up son who is also an actor. Looking at the given address on Google, it is a very modest property for a successful actress.

No, I am not sure. I sent her an email message, but have not yet heard back. If she is indeed the actress, her messages are probably read and filtered by a personal agent, and I am prepared to hear nothing in return. I suspect it would be construed as "fan mail". Should I hear back, I will let folks know the general content, but omit any threats to sue me for harassment.

Gemma Jones responded to my email with an interesting and informative reply. She told me a bit more about the tartan she designed than is written on the SRT. Decorum prohibits me from repeating any portion of her message beyond the fact that she is not the eponymous actress.
They do have an association, however. Ms. Jones went to see "Bridget Jones' Diary" and was surprised to see her name in the opening credits. I suggested that, if she hasn't already, she should see "Sense and Sensibility" in which the other Gemma Jones plays Mrs. Dashwood.
I also told her about our forum and how it was a great place to learn about and discuss all things tartan, kilt, Scottish attire, etc. Perhaps, someday she will join the rabble. So far, she has not threatened to sue me for harassment.

Well thanks for the update and for plugging the forum to the lady
I am sure we all wish her well in her marriage arrangements.

I'm surprised that the "tartan Gemma" is unfamiliar with the "actress Gemma". Especially since the actress has appeared in, like, nearly ALL of the Harry Potter movies! (Madame Pomfret the Hogwarts nurse)
