Phase one complete.
It is official I am now a certified nursing assistant. This also marks the end of my training and probationary period for the place that I now work. I've been caring for dementia patients and have found that it is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. The next big step starts next fall when I start my core nursing program, and if all goes well in the next three years I'll be an RN.

Cable Scot, here is an interesting story that applies to you and your path.
A dear friend of mine, years ago, lost his position of 17 years as a Truck Driver. Federal Funds were available at that time for retraining, so he went back to College. He received his NA, then his EMT Cert, and then he transferred to another college with his 4.0 gpa and ultimately graduated with honors as a RN. He has since worked as an ER Nurse in two different states on the west coast, excepting the challenge and excelling in each one, and now returned to his original hometown to be near he and his wife's Grandchildren. He is happy and provides a great recourse to his community.
Good luck and work hard. You are following your heart and that's what's important.

That's so great! I think it takes a person with a big heart and a very caring soul to do what you're doing!
