is it ever to hot to wear a kilt especially the heavy
I know I have some time to worry about this being its Dec.. But Im curious to know if its ever to hot for a kilt ? I am allergic to wool, so I def need biker shorts on under my kilt.. To me it's no different then wearing shorts..But I don't know if there are a fashion protocol with kilts being I am new at wearing them, I just don't want to insult the tradition.. My Spirit of Scotland is a heavy tartan, but I know I would like to wear it in summer along with my Wallace Red (light tartan).. and the black one I will b ordering in Feb which I am hoping for the light tartan.. You all gave me great advice before and I thank u ..I figure a short sleeve T /blouse would b good for summer..

Never! You girls have always known the value of the breeze with a skirt, and there's no protocol on that. The only thing is that the waist can get warm where it's so close to the body, but I'm a guy who hates heat... and I've worn it in blazing hot humid days.

You could also get a lighter fabric like the PV kilts from Rocky at USA Kilts.

Without getting too specific, I find even my medium weight wool tank too hot here in the summer on those days that get to 90F with about 70% humidity. The problem is the area around the waist - my back will soak thru with perspiration which is uncomfortable and not great for the kilt. On those days I wear a sport kilt which luckily are easy to find in one of the Buchanan tartans and wash n'wear.

Thank u ctbuchanan from Olde New England for your advice as well. I have had alot of advice and I appreciate it. Will def look into the sport kilt fabric . I def don't want to hurt the wool (kilt). we get hot here, humidity is the worse lol.. but luckily I'm like a snake ( as my mom says). The heat has a low effect on me.. But now my kilt order has gone from 7 wool tartans plus 4 sport kilts.. I'm cool with that.. thank u Again

This would solve the issue of being allergic to wool as well, eliminating the need for biker shorts underneath. Win-win.
I just don't want to insult the tradition
I want to be sensitive here, but I think you needn't worry about that. The tradition is for men to wear kilts, not women (except for pipers or other uniforms). So any traditional issues wouldn't really apply to your case. Wear it however you want, or however works best for you.

Angie, I definitely have to agree with Tobus and hopper! one of Rocky's semi-trads would fit the bill on all fronts. And what is more you will have one of the best kilt makers on the other side of the pond.

Thank u Tobus for your help as well, just wanted to make sure, I like the Kilt, to me its no different then wearing a skirt, but the kilt I like much more and much history behind the Kilt.. I would wear biker shorts over my under garments anyways with wool or the blended fabric kilt ..Thank you again, Deeply appreciate your help.. Will def look into other fabric too
