The magic of the kilt at work again
A week or so ago my wife and I went to an event at our local movie theater. It's a grand old place, an ex-vaudeville house being restored through a variety of community efforts and grants. On the way out, we saw a poster for their "Scotch whisky tasting" fund raiser at the end of January. I inquired before we left but the event staff didn't know anything about it.
Hmmm...came home and checked it out on the Interwebs, only to find it was sold out weeks ago and "Please call to be placed on the waiting list." So I did after the weekend. I ended up talking to Mary, the prime mover behind the event and restoration efforts.
I asked about the length of the waiting list and the chances of getting in. She said it depended on cancellations (always a few) and how many people they wished to seat in their meeting and function room upstairs. My wife and I would be No's 7+8 on the list. Worth a shot, I figured, so I signed us up.
"Oh, by the way," I said, "if you can get us in, I'll wear my kilt." (Ob Xmarks: 5yd wool Cameron Erracht from USAK)
"WHAT? Really?"
"Yes, ma'am, for real. My father was from Scotland and I'm proud of my heritage."
"Well," she said, "we'll see what we can do."
So this morning, a week later, I got a phone call out of the blue from Julie in a neighboring town. "Mary said you might want to buy my tickets to the whisky tasting," she said. "I have a date conflict and can't make it. But Mary also said to tell you if you buy them, you have to wear your kilt." Heh!--no problem there; I did and I will.
Now I've no idea where the rest of waiting list stands, but I do believe there's a bit of kilt magic at work here.

Great story. Look forward to hearing about the tasting.
It's interesting how many conversations are started because you're wearing a kilt.

Well, yeah! I'm not an accomplished photographer and I have great difficulty taking pics at an event that hasn't happened yet. Plus, I didn't think you'd be interested in pictures of a phone call...
