iPad sporran???
I recently received an iPad "mini" as a gift. It is 7.87"x 5.3"x.29" and only weighs .73 lbs.

Yesterday I was kilted and realized that it doesn't fit in any of my sporrans (I tried them all). I may have to resort to some form of shoulder bag, but thought that an over sized sporran would be just the ticket. Any thoughts? (May be an opportunity for you sporran makers here).
Cheers...Bill

I believe that Ratspike (Bob) might have a bag/sporran, modern type, that would fit the Bill. Any other more traditional sporran makers have anything to add?

Bill,
Wyvern Leatherworks (link at bottom of every screen) makes ancient style (Rob Roy) sporrans that are 8.5" x 8.5" with a wide gusset. Your iPad should fit in one of those puppies.

Good thought....My son has one of Donnie's sporrans. I'll see if it works.

Egads! A sporran to fit an iPad? That would have to be huge. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I try to keep my sporran as devoid of junk as possible... In the past, whether it were trousers or kilts, I would try to put in everything I needed: wallet, change purse, keys, cell phone, assorted other items... Until I realized that I was MUCH more comfortable not carrying those things at all. Nowadays, even when I wear jeans, I keep all my junk in my jacket (wallet is in the inside pocket) or in some kind of bag -- e.g. backpack, murse, messenger bag, what-have-you. Far more comfortable.

Yikes, that's still pretty large. I just compared it to the dimensions of my large sporran I built for my MOD cantle (which is as big a sporran as I would ever want to wear), and it still wouldn't fit. The size it would take to house that iPad mini would be rather cumbersome and out-of-proportion, methinks.
It could be done, but you may not like the look when it's all said and done. Not to mention the weight.

Bill, I commissioned a sporran from Donnie Hailey (wyvern) as I am not the smallest chap on the planet, I asked him to make mine larger than his standard size, my grizzly sporran in my avatar is 10x8 inches which would easily swallow an ipad mini. The bonus is that you would get an heirloom quality sporran too. No doubt Scott (Artificer) would be able to accommodate these dimensions without blinking an eye. Either would make you a sporran to die for.

I find that the pockets on my UT kilt accommodate an iPad mini. And since the pockets hang at your side, it is not uncomfortable to carry. But I don't think I would try it in a sporran.

The oversized 8.5" x 9.5" hiking sporran I made to accomodate my water bottle and sunscreen would do the trick, but it didn't exactly get rave reviews when I first posted it here.

It's been super handy though! I'm glad I have it.

I'm not sure that I would want the weight of a device in my sporran, nor in a belt pouch, where I would be concerned about it suffering a crush injury. I would rather have it in a small back-pack, so many of which have a padded pocket these days, specifically for such devices; and where you just don't notice the weight if there is not too much else in your pack.
Nathan, what have you got on your back hanging off that white strap, if I may ask? And, for the record, that is a pretty good-looking sporran - well done!
