Odd measurements on traditional kilt - trying to help a customer

Hi guys!

I received an email this morning from a customer who is looking to order from me. He sent me a photo of the tag from his traditional kilt and is curious about the length notation. Since I don't have much exposure to traditional styles, I was hoping someone could help me out.

Looks like a 2" rise above the waist to me.

Waist 38 inch
Hips 42.5 inch
Length 20.5 inch with an added 2 inch rise

Would be my guess.
But I'm no expert.

Matt, Steve, or Barb could confirm this, but if the issue is the "Length +" that's goofing you up it appears that they are noting length PLUS rise, so the overall length would be 22.5".
If your potential customer takes out a tape measure and measures the full length I'm betting that's what it comes to.

Aye to all of the above!
The 20.5" would be from the top of the hipbone to the bottom of the kilt. The 2" rise would be from the top of the hipbone to the top of the kilt, where he might wear a kilt belt. So, 20.5" + 2" = 22.5" total kilt length.

The 2" rise would be from the top of the hipbone to the top of the kilt.

Mmmm, no. The 2" rise is above the person's true waist. The top of the hipbone is actually quite a bit below the true waist, and a trad kilt isn't made to be worn that low.
