    First Formal Outing

The wife and I attended our first Scottish formal event, the Burn's Supper hosted by the Scottish Society of the Inland Empire. We had a wonderful time and appeared to fit in as far as our attire, but I value the opinions of the members of X-marks and would like to hear your comments.

Well, of course, you and your lady fitted in - you are both spot on!

Well done both of you. I must say, I do like to see a woman in a full length dress - so much more elegant.

Glad to read that you had a wonderful time. That's 99% of it. I think you both look absolutely splendid. I don't even have anything to nitpick. Darn it! Well, maybe the presence of those boxes in the picture.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Chas...thank you for your kind words and we agree the gown should be full length for formal.

mookien...PLEASE do not tell my wife I used the picture with the boxes in frame. Unfortunately none of the pictures after we moved the boxes looked as good. Note to self: the kid takes lousy pictures.

Don't worry. I know just how you feel. With me it's even worse - seems like in every picture in which my attire is well displayed, I have my finger in my nose, or something like that.

Well done, sir! And I agree with Chas, your lovely wife looks quite elegant in the full length dress.

Well done! Both you and your wife look very well turned out, indeed. I'll pick a nit because you asked and because everyone else has said what really needed to be said first which is that you both look fantastic. The nits I will pick are just personal taste.

First - what I really like:
    Everything about your lady's outfit.
    I quite like your sporran.
I like the hose choice. The blue compliments her outfit but stand nicely on their own. They are a nice shade of blue.
I'm not sure if the shoes are patent leather or just very well shone but they look perfect.
I'm a big fan of pocket watches and I think the chain compliments your outfit nicely.

If it was me, I'd probably choose a lay down collar rather than a wing collar with the PC. It looks as if your flashes are tartan. I think a solid colour would be more timeless and traditional.

That said, I've worn tartan flashes and wing collars with my PC in the past and it's only since I joined xmarks that I've been opting for the more timeless classic options as compared to those items that were all the rage when I was just getting into formal clothing in the late 1980s.

I'd also line the inside edge of the flash along with my shin bone rather than wear them on the sides. Again - this is not a rule, just my preference.

Some might advise you to take a touch off the sleeves of your PC to show a peek of shirt cuff, but your sleeves are perfectly cut to what is the other school of thought on sleeve length so this again is a coin toss and a matter of personal preference.

    A fine job indeed, Tomak.

I think you both look well put together.
I agree with Chas. A floor length gown, adds to the elegance of the evening.
