Leather regimentel sporran
Hi Group,
Can anyone recommend or point me to a supplier of a leather REGIMENTEL SPORRAN? I have seen them on eBay from 35-90 a few military surplus. But Id prefer to keep the money in the USA if I can.
I really like the simplicity of the style and I prefer an all leather belt as well.
Thanks
Bill

I appreciate your desire to spend your money locally, but I think you'd just be spending more to get it from a guy in the USA who got it from Scotland. Might as well get it directly.
Unless you get one in that style custom-made from an American boutique sporranmaker which would cost several times more.
Those plain leather sporrans are mass-produced for the Army and you can get them quite inexpensively on Ebay. I picked up one, actually a Canadian military one, on Ebay for around $20. It was new and unissued and had Canadian military markings on the inside.
Here it is. It has the brass stud flap closure long used by The Black Watch. Some other regiments used the hidden-snap flap closure, and that's the style currently used by The Royal Regiment of Scotland, the style you see all the time on Ebay.

Yep that's the one! It will cost me $32 to ship from the UK. I am sure or I think I can find something closer to home for close to the same $$. But as a last resort....Ill go to the UK.
Thanks.. Need to look on eBay Canada!

Also available from What Price Glory, made in India at the time of our purchase, pay attention to the sizing (and the date, things may have changed since then but who knows?).

So you're fine with dressing in the Scottish cultural style but don't want to toss a little coin back to the auld sod to support the economy your kinfolk rely on to survive? Interesting.
I have no issue with buying locally, but I'm also happy to support Scottish industry.

Just be aware that many of the new inexpensive sporrans out there, including the ones from What Price Glory, are made in India or Pakistan.
I'd rather get a vintage Scottish or Canadian military one that's made in Scotland or Canada. The quality is better.
Here's the sort worn by all ranks of the Scottish infantry of today, by The Royal Regiment of Scotland. This one is interesting because it has the holes punched in the face, but hasn't had the badge affixed yet. Nearly always the ones sold on Ebay have the badge, or lack the badge and haven't been punched yet. This is the type with the hidden snap in the flap.

and here's the photo that goes with that listing
