    Post deleted. War time Atrocities!

A recent post has been deleted. Can we please have a report on this action. I know that I posted a strong view on why this post had no place on this forum but it seems to have been deleted without comment. I didn't flag the post but would not have been surprised if anyone did. A brief explanation will more than suffice.
    Many thanks.

Alan I have no problem with what you posted. I agree with you that it is deplorable and totally abhorrent. Everyone should be made aware of our past no matter how unpalatable that may be. I just don't think that it is suitable material for a kilt forum. We should all learn from the past! It's such a shame that we don't!

Exactly. I NEVER thought that people would disagree with my revulsion and horror. The question is whether that should be posted on X Marks the Scot. I thought it over, knew that I took a chance of having the post tossed in the "Cooling Off Corner" or deleted outright, and went ahead and took the chance. The post got moved. It's not like I was surprised.

A High school...well, not "friend" exactly, but a classmate of mine commented on an almost identical post that I've put up on Facebook about this issue. I don't much like his attitude, but I allow that he's entitled to his opinion. However, I am also entitled to express my opinion, and this is what I wrote.

M*****, you are entitled to your opinion.

This is my opinion: I, for one, refuse to perpetrate the hate. I refuse to label an entire society or an entire race with a sticker of hatred. I refuse to broadcast the message that "I am superior" to "them", whoever "they" may be. In other words, I refuse to become what those J------ "medical personnel" were. I refuse to allow even a sliver of that to exist in my life. Instead, I choose to learn the lesson of horror that "I am superior" and hatred has taught, and to state unequivocally... "NEVER AGAIN". That's my opinion.

However, again....you are entitled to your opinion.

And with that, I think my commentary on the subject is done. Carry on! Back to pleats, thread count, sgian dubhs, wool vs polyester-viscose, and sporrans.

Also, it would not bother me in the slightest if this post were locked in the next few minutes, or moved to "Miscellaneous" or even to the cooling-off corner again.

I may be able to shed some light on this.

And I apologize to the forum for this post disappearing without some explanation. I believe the Moderators were working on a post of explanation when this was posted.

It is true that the issue in Alan's post is historical fact. It did happen.

And it is also true that he posted it to the Misc. forum section where topic not related to the kilt may be posted.

However, the staff did receive a flag on the post, had set up a poll, and were in the process of voting when Alan gave them permission to remove it. Alan, as the OP owns his own threads and may request that they be closed or deleted as he feels right.

Here is a copy of the part of the discussion thread among the staff.

"Solution reached. I have just received this PM from AlanH:

If you and even one other mod feel that my thread "not a pleasant post" is wildly inappropriate for the forum, you have my "permission"...even encouragement to just delete it. I knew it was "edgy" when I put it up this morning, so I'm not in the slightest bit surprised that it was moved. I will not be upset or offended in any way if you gents just delete it altogether.

Yes, I think the issue is important and heart-rending, but I understand how that is peripheral to the issue regarding whether it should be on X Marks, or not.

With that request I suggest we move his thread to the Archives. And that we disregard the poll and move this thread there, too.
No action will be taken on this issue as the staff feel it is resolved."

I thank all the members for their calm over an issue the staff feel could have gone very wrong, very fast. I also thank you for your understanding of the staff. We are human and sometime are not able to fully inform you as fast as a computer could.

I wrote the post that Grizzly is inquiring about. I messaged ThistleDown and requested that if he and even one other Mod decided that the post was inappropriate for the forum, they should just delete it. I would not take offense or be upset, as I knew the subject matter was "edgy" for this forum when I wrote it. In my correspondence with ThistleDown, we're both being polite and friendly and we're actually having a bit of a discussion about the issue in the message room.

    No worries.

That said, it was only last night that I learned about these events, and I am very heartsick and depressed about them...not just them, but about the fact that I am a 50--something year old man, and a reasonably well-educated one, and I JUST learned about this yesterday. How could that be?... well, I know the answer to that question and the answer is only more upsetting, depressing and infuriating.

However, whether it should be on X Marks the Scot at all, well.... kind of up to the mods. Their decision is "no". I don't have a problem with that.
