Shirley Temple in Wee Willie Winkie 1937
Sad news that Shirley Temple passed away.
She was such a delight and brought sunshine and smiles to so many people around the world.
Here she is in Wee Willie Winkie...

Shirley's the one on the right.
WWW shown on black-and-white TV in the early 60's was the first time I ever saw a man in a kilt and heard the bagpipes.

So very sorry to hear of Shirley Temple's passing today. I didn't agree with all of her politics but who couldn't love the lovely, positive, optimistic and very talented curly-haired little girl. She was a very decent actress as a teen too! How tragic that in 1934 we had Shirley Temple and in 2014 we have Miley Cyrus! Rest in Peace, Shirley!! ![Piper](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/piper.gif)

See now that's interesting. Every New Year when it's sung here people pronounce it like she did in the movie. Is syne pronounced more like, "sign" in Scots? What about the other two words? Was she close?

Exactly - "sign". (It means "since" or "then".) English people generally say "Zyne" so that pronunciation causes great distress in Scotland. As for the rest, she's not perfect of course, but as good as most Hollywood attempts.
Here is the original tune and the original words.
