    Ebay Kilt... WWII???

I came across this and am curious if anyone knows what it is? It does not look like any regimental kilts I am used to seeing.

it lacks the customary bright green binding at the waist you normally see on MoD and Commonwealth kilts-

It also doesn't have the classic double tongue buckles.

Beyond that you've got me stumped.

As I understand it, officers could commission their own kilts, made to their own specifications. So the lack of usual military-style green band and double-tongue buckles don't necessarily mean it wasn't a military kilt. I guess it just means it wasn't military-issued.

It's a very interesting specimen, though. I really like the dark tartan and the colours in it. I know there were odd/random tartans used in WWII, but I've never seen one like this before. Not sure if it's authentic or not, but I do like it!

Yes... definitely not a tartan I have seen before or standard MOD style. It is a beautiful looking kilt though.

BTW, Does anyone know if currently made MOD kilts are handstitched or machined?

Doesn't resemble any MoD issue kilt I've seen but Tobus' explanation seems very plausible.

It does look like it would benefit from some TLC (Tender Loving Care) from an experienced kiltmaker.

I'm with Tobus. The first thing I looked for was the green waistband. Which is not there. Nor is there any military markings or labels. So is it military? I'm not sure. AS to the tartan, it seems to me we are looking at a badly faded kilt. I wonder if the tartan is Cameron of Erracht? Sometimes when dyes fade they don't go lighter, but change colour completely. It's the closest military tartan I can think of.

True, but I guess when I read the following, it sorta implied that it was (perhaps I was reading too much into it), but very well could be (and likely is) civvie...

"From Large Militaria Collection that had a lot of World War 2 items. Therefore, I'm guessing this may be from WWII. "

    Old(ish), yes: military, no.

You've all been seduced by the military theme, including the rosettes, but the tartan is actually Clergy/Clark.
