    Annular brooch fastened with antler

We've got a huge St. Patrick's Day Parade on my street tomorrow morning, and there's usually a lot of kilts there, so I figured, "Why not?" But I've been very disappointed with the look of the smaller brooches I've been using to fasten my great kilt. I thought I might try something a little different tomorrow, since everyone else is going to look like an idiot anyway.
So this is what I came up with. The antler's a bit large, but then, so am I.

not an immortal but I say go for it. On a great kilt I should think it would look great.

After a day spent walking in a crowd of 140,000 drunk people, I have a few observations.
    1) Despite the fact that Scots are well represented at this event (including three pipe bands in the parade itself), I had several people yelling that I'd failed because I was dressed as a Scot rather than an Irishman (To which my replies were either: "Good for you for knowing the difference." "Celtic solidarity!" Or [to the particularly belligerent] a complete history of my particular clan and its purported associations with Dal Riata and Columcille, by which time the drunks gave up and said, "Nevermind, have fun."
1a) An amazing number of people in my area don't actually know the difference between the Irish and the Scots.
    2) After having worn a great kilt as a regular clothing item weekly for ten years or so (although not in crowds of this size), I was still surprised by the number of times I had to tell women, "You know, I'd be arrested if I did/asked you that?"
    3) The real danger wasn't poking my eye out with the antler piece (which everyone agreed looked badass). It was drunk people not paying attention and consistently aiming their eyes right at the points as they walked by. I'll trim the antler down to 3 usable-sized pieces as soon as I'm comfortable with how to cut it ... And probably buy a normal brooch while I'm waiting.
    4) Utilikilts and their progeny were everywhere. As much as I'm a non-traditionalist/anachronist by wearing a great kilt as a modern garment, even I think those things look goofy. I had to fight the temptation to tell one gentleman with his "kilt" about 4 inches above his ankle that if he would pull it up to his knee people would be able to see his "sweet calf tattoos." On the other hand, I couldn't stop myself when one person had his kilt on backward. He actually almost punched me, but I think the antler piece scared him off.
I have to wonder if any of my kilted brethren can relate.
