Sporran Belt verse Strap - and what about ....

In case you are wondering, yes I'm a newbie with questions. This maybe answered somewhere already, but I did not see it.

What is better, a Sporran belt (with the clips hooking into the eyes) or a strap (with the strap having the bucket behind the sporran and then two straps with hooks hanging from the belt, hooking into the eyes)?

Or can you have the straps hanging directly from your Kilt belt?

    Thanks again.

You can hang your sporran from your belt with suitable straps, but then you always have to wear a belt. If you have a leather or chain strap with clips, make sure they are good quality clips otherwise you may find they snag if you need to swivel the sporran onto your hip and back, especially the right hip. If using a one piece all leather strap and the sporran has a suitable hoop, you do not need clips, you just run the strap through the back of the sporran and buckle it round the back of your kilt. No need to pass it through the kilt belt loops, that just makes it more difficult to swivel and put on/take off.

You will find lots of threads relating to this and some saying that leather straps are less damaging than chains. Personally I have never had a problem with good chains, but at the end of the day it is down to personal preference, preferably making sure that things match up.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
