Buyers remorse, and suggestions for next purchase
Hey first post here (excluding introductions). So as the title says I have a bit of buyers remorse. I was at a renaissance festival and got my first kilt. I decided on a tartan that me and the (now ex) girlfriend liked. A PV Blue Ramsey. It’s really nice. And I do like it. And it was a good deal at $110.00 They had to mail it to me because they did not have any in my size. So, after the festival I found out from my dad I had several lines of Scottish in my family. Going back to MacKay, and Lamont, and Gordon. So, I would really really like to have a PV in one of those. And I go to school, so I don't have money to just toss around. I hate to ask said company for a return. But the only thing they can do in the tartans I want is custom orders in wool, and they start at $300 Does anyone have any recommendations for my next purchase? I see a lot of positive opinions of USAK. And after finding this post I do like that Gordon modern they make. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

All I can say is you can't go wrong with USAkilts. I have 1 semi-traditional, 3 casual and one 5 yard wool. USAkilts craftsmanship and customer service are second to none.

What Richrail wrote. I have one of USA Kilts PV casuals (the Police tartan) and love it. But, their wool kilts start a bit above $300. I think their PV Gordon Modern in a casual or semi-trad would look grand.
Also, Burnett's & Struth have casual kilts on sale for about $200. Of the three clans you mention it appears that they only have the tartan for the Gordon Ancient. For details check ...

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I have two USA Kilts, both Semi-Traditional in PV. I am very pleased with them. Great product, great service.

Wear the Blue Ramsey with pride, get accustomed to being kilted, and get others accustomed to seeing you kilted. Save up for however long it takes and order the wool kilt from USA Kilts. It will be worth the wait and the money. The Blue Ramsey will always be an awesome casual kilt for occasions where you wouldn't want to expose your nice wool one to rowdy mishap.
And, welcome to the Rabble!

You cannot go wrong with USAKilts and Rocky. Their customer service is next to none, the best I've ever dealt with. I am currently waiting for the mail to deliver my latest from them...it arrives on Thursday (is it Thursday yet?).
You might also try J. Higgins in Kansas City (or more aptly, Lenexa KS). I have one kilt from them and was impressed. They are not bad starting at 129 for a PV.
Good luck in your kilting endeavors.

There are some reasonably priced kilts from Pakistan, I should mention these same kilts are exported to the UK. I got a decent one off of eBay for costume use so the optimum quality was not required, all in all though it looks and wear fine.

USAKilts are very nice. I, personally, don't own one (Yet), however; having seen their craftsmanship in person, I would recommend them. I would also strongly recommend a day wear sporran. J. Higgins offers a line of budget daywear sporrans for $25 + $10 for a strap + shipping.

My first kilt was from highlandkilt.com . Nice knockabout kilt for 89 bucks and they throw in a free sporran .
