Help With Tartan fabric for best pleat selection

    Hello,
I have some Blue Tartan fabric to make a RevK kilt for a friend.
In total I have 6 meters in length once joined at the center back seam.
I was going to do the pleats, 5m & 12 cm which seams to be the best but other advice would be very much appreciated.
This is for a 30" waist.

    Regards in advance
    Adam

    Hi Adam,

    Beautiful colors!

Although I don't make this kind of kilt, I'd make the following observation. This tartan has a very small sett (the size of the tartan repeat). You might consider making one pleat every 2 setts (every 9 cm) - that way, every pleat would look the same (i.e., be pleated to the stripe or the block). That would look pretty sharp and be about right for the amount of tartan you have. If you choose a pleat every 12 cm, each pleat will pick up a different part of the tartan in somewhat random order, and the kilt might look like a bit of a hodge-podge across the back.

Someone who makes RevK kilts can chime in on other suggestions.
