    Bells,Buckles 'n' Bows

How easy is it to alter the buckles at side of the kilt? I normally gain a couple of inches in winter and lose them in summer. So my favorite kilt is a bit loose at the moment. Plus I managed to snag one of the buckles last night and rip it clean off.

I did that on a kilt of mine, well, not me, I took it to a friend who had a heavy duty sewing machine, it worked out fine.

I did the same thing on kilt last year.
I'm lucky that I live fairly close to my
Kiltmaker. They replaced it with a
heaver material to hold the buckle. A good
seamstress should be able to replace yours.

I shrunk between the time I ordered my first kilt and the time it arrived. I would have needed suspenders to keep it from falling off. A local gal recommended by the scottish shop took in the kilt, repressed the first couple pleats, and relocated the straps and buckles. she only charged me $25 and you can't tell it was ever touched.

    Rhino,

I have recently 'acquired' one of Howie's own kilts - one that was actually also worn by Alistair MacKenzie (of "Monarch of the Glen") on the 'Dressed to Kilt' fashion show catwalk in NYC). Interestingly, it is equipped with double straps and double buckles, which allow for a much greater variation in sizing than single fitments.

The arrangement is difficult to explain and I cannot offer photographs here, although I will try to get a couple in my personal album ASAP. Watch this space!

Interesting Hamish, I remember seeing Howie picking a kilt once for a model, he said then it was one of his, and has them fitted with 2 straps, model size and Howie size
Forgive my memory, but did I read somewhere you got a bleached cord kilt. This wouldn't be the elusive material we were both after would it
If so I'm glad you got one. I'll have to get hold of him for some fabric samples, I NEED a lightweight for summer...

Right first time, Rhino! Having taken my order, Howie was unable to get any more of the fabric (the length for his kilt being a 'one-off') no matter how hard he tried so, he VERY reluctantly offered me his own kilt, which he adored! I was not going to let that opportunity slip by, and so I went for it!!! Boy! Is that one Hell of a kilt!

If so I'm glad you got one. I'll have to get hold of him for some fabric samples, I NEED a lightweight for summer...

Howie did send me numerous samples of corduroy in the process, but I did not care for any of them.
This bleached corduroy is far from being a lightweight kilt, Rhino. It's almost too hot to be worn in the current weather conditions - but I love it so much that I'm prepared to put up with the heat!!

I am so sorry you will not be able to have one like it!!!!!

Excellent, I'm really pleased you got the kilt you wanted, I'm not too jealous  , and I'm glad the lad honoured his promise. It means more as it must have hurt to hand over that kilt.
I think I'd put up with heat too, but it also means I'll have to get a lightweight for summer and possibly a cord for winter
Oh and I'd believe you were sorry if you had less 'happy faces'
    Cheers Rhino

Are you name dropping yet again Hamish?
