Yet another kilt pin question
I mentioned a while back that I planned to have some wooden kilt pins crafted locally.
The woodturned called me to say he's having trouble finding the pins to attach to the back of the wooden pin.
I did some searching within Australia and only found some brooch pins half the size they should be, and not too strong.
Does anyone know a supplier of better pins?

Big craft suppliers should have a variety of sizes.

Not wanting to keep enlarging the holes in the outer apron by moving a single pin between various kilts-I try and have one for each kilt. Some are not pins at all-as a bit back I found some suitable 'copper metal-badges I suppose' that went well with one or other kilt-thus copper against ancient tartan. I then sewed them with matching thread to the kilt so they are attached to the top apron permantly.
Now I geriatric I do much less hill/moor walking: but after losing kilt pins to aggressive heather-for the heavy kilt used for this, I'd always sew in the pin-so the heather could not catch and pull it off.
Also for the skean dhu for rough country walking-I'd have it on a strap rather than just in stocking, so again it would not get caught in heather etc and be pulled out unnoticed.

Thanks for that info James, I think most here would agree that one pin per kilt is best, it's certainly what I do.
I have a "Guinness" keychain bought in Dublin that I converted to a kilt pin/badge.
I'm still waiting on the wooden pins, the guy has not made them yet.

I use generic 'skirt pins' bought at a local fabric store. They can be bent if nessessary and epoxied to the back of wood nicely. (Done it- worked well.) I've also cast them into metal using 'lost wax'.

Try the local spotlight store if you have one down there. Cheers Andrew
