Note in Soldier's Kilt

The Valuation Rolls record a certain Thomas K Govan, a clark; as one of the tenants of 49 Ardgowan Street in both 1915 and in 1920.

Also surfaced a person in the Glasgow/Lanarkshire area called Helen Govan b.1897 whose father was called Thomas Govan. She also had a elder brother called Thomas Govan, however it's not an uncommon name.

Anyone any good at the ancestry research stuff?

The kiltmaker company (Peter Wilson) was fairly well known.

I saw this news article earlier and was just about to post it here when I saw that you had already done that. It will be interesting to hear the lady's story if/when they are able to find her out.

The person to whom the kilt was sent does not seem to be named, so it may not be possible ever to find the answer. Unless someone in the lady's family has been told of the WW1 romance, and the story has been passed down the family.

I wonder into how many kilts Ms. Govan put such messages and if she ever got any replies. What a fun mystery to unravel.

Wow. That looks pretty good. Actually don't mind the color…well it's ok. That would be an awesome heirloom to have especially given the story.

Interesting that it's Hodden Grey and therefore presumably a London Scottish kilt despite the Glasgow address on the letter.

The Harris Tweed pinky/grey, on here looks to be similar ( would it be?),( and on sale for25GBP per meter, dbl wide ( doesn't tell us what weight):
