Kilt pin repaired
(I'm not sure what forum this belongs in, but Care and Maintenance sounded close...)
I repaired my kilt pin that was starting to bend and break.
It is one of the very common thin sword and clan badge type of chrome-plated junky pot metal. It was starting to bend where the sword blade meets the bottom of the badge. Not really visible on the front, but the chrome was starting to crack on the back side. Time to fix it before it went too far.
I figured it would be OK if I could glue something really stiff to the back to give it a new "backbone". All the wire I have or know of is still too flexible to help. What's the stiffest, hardest, thin thing I know of? Drill rod.
OK, where to get some spare drill rod? Oh yeah, that cheap set of drill bits. Even the worst drill bit will be very strong for this.
I used clear epoxy glue to attach the drill bit to the back of the pin. From the front, you can't even see it straight on, and you have to really look hard to see it from an angle. Problem solved!
