A modern take on 4yd box kilt

Many moons ago, I bough 2.5 yards of Martin Mills wool from RockyR. It sat in my "to do" pile for years. I thought it would be a cool casual kilt, made of wool, but with the look of denim.

I used Matt's addendum to the original The Art of Kiltmaking.

Finally, after stumbling on the perfect kilt pin, I knew I had to get it done.

Original cloth. Unfortunately the twill lines didn't run the way I wanted. So I had to cut and seam 3 pieces to make the yardage.

And, now that I have a fun kilt pin, I whipped up a custom shirt, and paired with the new kilt. Sorry for the wrinkles. I've never fully dressed that dummy before.

It really was easy, as you aren't matching tartan, or making sure your repeat is perfect. It allows for a bit of sewing creativity.

On the other hand, with self-color or one color fabric, you can get crooked seams easily. It takes precise measuring and a few ripped out stitches on wonky pleats.
