A Bad Day for Canada
Sometimes kilts in the media do not come with good news stories. One of our kilted soldiers standing guard at our National War Memorial in Ottawa was gunned down this morning by a supposed terrorist.
My prayers are with the soldier, his family and with any other victims of this terrible act.

I'm very upset about the situation in Ottawa. How do you know he was a kilted soldier?
Was he with the Camerons? Do you know who he was?
Edit: The news just reported that he is with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada from Hamilton.

The media are reporting that he was kilted and that yes he is with the Cameron Highlanders. I work at Ottawa City Hall. The Highlanders headquarters, the Drill Hall, is just outside my window and you can tell the building is sealed up tight. We are currenly on lockdown as are all of the government buildings in the area.
I am much incensed at him, since he deprived us of the kilt
and all our native garments.

CBC has just confirmed that the soldiers on guard this morning were from the Agyll and Sutherland Highlanders, a Reserve Unit from Hamilton ON. Afraid DanG was correct.

They just announced the solider succumbed to his wounds. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I've been following this all morning. Unfortunately, my first thought was,....this looks familiar.

I just heard about it on the radio. They say that the Master at Arms, considered a mainly ceremonial position (according to the radio), is the one who took the terrorist down. Prayers go out to the fallen soldier's family.

Too shocking. What a sad state our world has descended to. Bad anywhere but so much more so in a peaceful, friendly and open country like Canada. My sympathies to all concerned.
Regards, Sav.

Great job on the part of the Canadian Parliamentary Sergeant At Arms and police stopping the shooter in his tracks. This could have been a far worse incident of terrorism otherwise. They are currently searching for other possible shooters.
I am sickened to hear about the fate of the soldier. I hope the other victims have a speedy and complete recovery.

This photo taken five hours after the shooting. Proud highlanders back on duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
