Campbell Dress vs Gordon Dress? How to differentiate?

Supposedly, the deadly coral snake lives in the region of South Carolina where I do. There are many rhymes to help you differentiate between the harmless coral king snake and the smaller, but venomous coral snake. Red touch yellow, kill a fellow,. red touch black, friend of Jack. Of course it is pretty easy to misremember the rhyme, but I have also learned that coral snakes have black heads or noses.

What has this to do with tartans? Nothing at all, except I am trying to find a simple way of distinguishing Gordon and Campbell dress tartans from each other. And yes, I know, the official line on Campbell is that there is no dress Campbell tartan.

    Thanks in advance

Gordon on the left, Campbell on the right.

Look in the green squares the CambeLL has two different colours of Line, white and yellow. GordON has only ONE.

Maybe it could make a rhyme -

On dress Campbell's green two hues are seen, either white or yellow, Dress Gordon sticks to only one, the mellow yellow fellow.

Don't forget--for what its worth-- the late 12th Duke of Argyll did NOT recognize a dress Campbell tartan. He wrote: "THERE IS NO DRESS CAMPBELL [TARTAN]--repeat! repeat! repeat!"http://ccsna.org/jsep50a.htm

Two things strike me about this post.

First, when the OP plainly stated he was aware of the "official line" why is this post necessary?

Second, the late Chief's remarks seem to ignore reality. While he may deplore, abhor, abjure, condemn and otherwise hate the tartan, he can't wish it out of existence. It exists. It is known by that name. It is woven and it sells. To pretend otherwise is as rational as insisting that the Earth is flat and that the moon landing was staged on a movie set in Burbank.
