Oh dear. . . " Meet the McCloud" CDW ad
YouTube link
Pretty terrible representation, all the stereotypes and then some. Currently running on college football broadcasts.

Yeah, but I like the Macleod tartan, his plastic sporran belt, the 7-button waistcoat, and the Saxon tie. His kilt was a little long though for my taste. He's also a bit "matchy matchy".
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

If he is a Scotsman he should be ashamed to be seen like that: the pleats are in the front, the kilt is too short, the sporran is worn at the waist, etc..

Heavens! Nobody could dress that badly except on purpose!
Did no one else see that as satire/ parody/ send-up/ exaggeration for effect?
(I saw it as a play on "cloud storage" for computery stuff, in which CDW makes a market.)

Pretty obviously satire. Just sad to see the extent. . . And to wonder how many will not see the "obvious."

I think (almost?) everyone here saw it that way. I suspect the producers wrote off folks like us, who know anything about Scottish attire, as an insignificant (from a marketing perspective) minority. It's kind of like "Hoot Man" in "Road to Bali". I doubt many folks got up and walked out of that movie simply because they were offended by the representation of Scottish attire.
