My kilt (poor quality)
Heritage of scotland acrylic kilt, I'm 16 and had to pay out of pocket. I don't have kilt hose, because I can't afford it (I am not allowed to have a job and have no allowance) Just long socks. Anyways, any tips are appreciated, and wish me luck in the ghettoville of northwest lousy-anna.

Looks fine for a starter, well done! I have that same kilt for wearing around!
For inexpensive hose, try sockdreams. Cotton "kilt" hose, $10 free US shipping. Only go to about a One size they say fits a US 9 in mens. http://www.sockdreams.com/products/d...nee-highs:4171
Brewin are also inexpensive, wool, and sometimes available from other outlets as well.. http://www.wbsocks.co.uk/kilt-hose-kilt-socks/
Suggestion: ask for them for a birthday present if you have no job. :-)

Laird,
Think you look great. Glad to see a young man like you enjoying kilts. Wish I would have done the same when I was closer to your age. By the way, the socks you have look pretty good with the entire outfit. Enjoy!!!!!

Don't be apologetic….very few guys jump into the deep end of the pool at the very beginning of their kilting career. You take it one step at at time and add and improve accessories as you go along. You look fine and, as time goes by, I'm sure you'll flesh out your outfit to your satisgfaction.
Best,

I think you will do much better buying things a piece at a time. When I got my first Kilt, I bought a package for formal wear, but that lead me to several areas that this forums has taught me were misguided, like a certain colored hose or the dreaded semi-formal sporran.

Not sure a jacket would be worth it at this point. You'll likely grow out of a jacket fairly quickly. Have you thought about a vest? Much cheaper and would likely suit most occasions.

Hey, that looks a pretty good first attempt on a limited budget and you do look better than the other 95% of guys who don't wear kilts ! It's a good approach to start more simply and see you your taste develops, particularly at your age.
On the hose, a couple of suggestions. Take a look at "seaman's socks" usually wool and knee length with a turned over top and a lot cheaper than kilt hose. Alternatively, you could try knitting your own.

Yer wearin' a kilt man. Smile!! You look good in your kilt. I remember having a slim physique like that 50 years ago. Sigh.
