    Tartan Week!

    Hi all,

It's now April which means it's almost time for Tartan Week in New York. Will anyone be getting involved in the festivities?

I'll be leading the Clan Buchanan in the parade once again on April 11. We usually have a pre-parade meet up in the Perfect Pint, 123 W 45th Street and then head over to the assembly point on 6th Ave. at 1:30 PM. We used to go to St. Andrews but it got so crowded over the years we needed a new venue.

Sounds great! I wish the team at MacGregor & MacDuff could see the parade!

I should be there as long as I can move my class schedule around. I am supposed to teach a class that day/ Hopefully I can just teach the morning and my partner will teach the afternoon.

The "official" after party has moved back to Stout, the headliner is Barleyjuice. Good band, but this party is an expensive ticket. I have been most years however. I liked the place it was at last year, but it was small.

Two of us will be kilted at Gardner Alehouse for the evening. Good opportunity to pique people's interest in Scottish influence on the world.

New York does a good job with Tartan Week - lots of events and activities, but some are a bit expensive. To march in the parade, however, is free. The shame is that not many clans participate. It's easy to take a train in from Connecticut, upstate NY or New Jersey. Grand Central is only a few blocks from the parade start. Our group loves going in for the day and showing off the tartan.
I literally get my picture taken by dozens of tourists. Just a fun day all around.

The parade is so much fun! I'll be marching/dancing with Shot of Scotch highland dancers.

Also, at Ellis Island, I'll do a kiltmaking information table on Fri. 4/10, 4/11 for the morning only, and 4/12. It's sponsored by Clan Currie, with music, entertainment, and an interesting exhibit about a Scottish pirate.

Well, don't keep us guessing on which Scottish pirate Bonnie Heather. I had a relative (William Ingram) hanged by the neck on the docks in Maryland along side dozens of other pirates in the 1700's. The mood of the crowd was festive then also. I expect the folks visiting your booth will be overjoyed at your exhibit. Just leave the parrot and eye patch at home.
