Hello, I recently decided to try making my first Utility kilt(except without the pockets), when a friend of mine asked if I might be able to make him one. I'm most of the way done with that Kilt, and I definitely foresee myself making more. So far I've had several people ask if I could make them one, before they've even seen my first one finished! I used some instructions that I found online, and early on I started noticing that some of the methods they used seemed like they could be better. That started me on the research project that led me to finding this forum, as well as the "Art of Kiltmaking" book. I would like to make a traditional Tartan Kilt in the future(My family tartan is Gordon), but I would rather perfect the methods using cheaper materials first. As I'm not just new to making Kilts, but also relatively new to sewing in general, I will likely have several elementary and basic questions, although hopefully most of them will be answered when I get my book. I always try and check to see if my questions have been previously answered before I ask them, but if I don't know proper terminology that might not work out.
