So, I'm going to be in Ireland
The time of our much dreamt of trip to Ireland is near. I can't wait. Several of my great grandparents migrated from there and I'm looking forward both to that aspect as well as seeing the scenery.
I plan on wearing my Fraser Ancient Hunting Hillwalker kilt for the flight over & back. I also plan on wearing my Amerikilt and my Kinloch Anderson Breacan for hiking while in Ireland.
Any thoughts on how this will be received? I've worn the Breacan when flying to canada and received such positive feedback that I probably will always want to fly in a kilt.
Also, if at all possible, (being the worry-wart that I am) I would love to have a local contact that I could call should something disastrous occur. Anyone here live in the south-west and west of Ireland that would be willing to be an emergency contact?
Thanks!

Can't help you with your questions, but welcome to the group, and have a great time on your trip! My wife and I would like to head to Ireland for our 10th anniversary in '07.

Hello MtnBiker, I think we've met on other forums, welcome to Xmarks.
What part of Ireland are you going to? I have a couple of friends there.
Daneel (a member here) is the best person to speak to, he's in Nth Ireland, here is his website http://snlapping.co.uk/kilts

Hey Graham,
Thanks.
I used to play over at Tom's a lot, but it's just not my bag any more.
Anyhow, we're going to be in South and Southwest Ireland. Killarney, Dingle, County Claire (where my ancestors are from) -- that area.
I'm looking forward to hiking my legs off, and maybe visiting some of these 'thin places' one reads about.

Co.Clare is beautiful, I've been there twice, didn't do a lot of hiking, but the coast from Kilrush up to the Cliffs of Moher is spectacular.
Wish I was going with you! I don't think you'll have any more problem with kilts there than anywhere else, but you may not see any other kilt wearers.

Ireland
I spent 10 days in Ireland in May. I wore Amerikilts an traditional kilts the whole time. No problems with the locals. The other tourists loved it. Met a kilted scot in a pub. We hit it off, drank a few pints, and I was invited to see him when I go to Scotland next year and invited to his clan gathering. Only adiise is to watch the wind!!!
It was the only time my wife did not complain about me being kilted fro 10 days straight.
