Question from wife
When I was kilted last, my wife asked me if I were Italian, would I wear a Toga? Interesting.
Actually I thought of similarities: both are generally uncommon for general wear, both are geographically representative.
Another is the wearing of the Toga at a high school where my wife worked. Saratoga....an upstate NY city...had an annual Toga day....Sara"Toga" apparently the basis. The HS kids wore Sheets arranged as Togas.....except that was all they wore...that prompted the principal to require the wearing of underwear....sounds like a number of topics on our forum.
For our UK friends, the battle of Saratoga was a major battle in the American Revolution, or the American War as I believe it is known in UK.

Observations:
1. The toga is representative of an empire that ended whereas Scotland continues (hopefully forever!)
2. The toga was worn over a plain tunic. To do otherwise is a disgrace to both past and present and shows an utter disregard for history or else an utter ignorance of it.
Cheers!

I think it was probably ignorance, or at least the chance to wear a costume to school.

Heck no: it's called the Great Rebellion. No, wait, that was the English Civil War 130 years earlier.

Believing all my life that i have no celtic genes, (awaiting dna to prove other) should i not wear a kilt? Having a predominantly german heritage, i would think it should be lederhosen for me. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. While im thankful to the scots for the kilt.....they must realize the wonder they created must be enjoyed by any real man.

Well, just to pick nits, lederhosen were limited to mostly Bavaria and elsewhere in the mountains and not a part of lowland German dress.
Hm. . . that sounds vaguely familiar. . .

A person doesn't have to be from Spain to enjoy Spanish food as someone doesn't have to be from France to enjoy French wine. I'm not from Ireland and am not Irish but I love Irish traditional music.

I am not at all sure that"must" comes into it. Some Scots would believe and say "Hi-jacked". Make no mistake, there are Scots who are not in the least bit impressed with others wearing their kilt. Nevertheless it does sweeten the pill, somewhat, if the kilt is worn with respect.

What exactly would define "worn with respect"?
