A few points noted
I've just noticed a couple of things in the last few days.
I've been grappling with my old computer again and missed the last 4-5 days of posting and must say, probably in the wrong place I'm sorry to see AC and his family leave, I can't comment because I can't find the full information but I'll miss them.
On a lighter note I've read in several places how much people are nervous about wearing their kilts, and I'll admit once or twice I had to grit me teeth.
BUT I've started wearing an Akubra, I've never been so self conscious and nervous, trust me wearing a hat round here is more nerve wracking than wearing a kilt.
And the other incident to report was from the missis, bless her, just lately I've been busy, 18 hour day busy, so I've rushed from one place/job to another. Most of the time these last 2 weeks I've not worn a kilt, yesterday I had an easy job of walking a customer through a garden centre, and I planned to wear a kilt, the wife was annoyed....
Her words 'Oh right so you can wear a kilt for 'HER' but not me'......I smiled all day, in a kilt.
Cheers Rhino

Rhino,
Sorry to hear that your computer's been having problems again, and that you've been forced out of wearing the kilt lately.
Are you so busy because of the new landscaping job? Did you start that business, or were you just considering it...I can't remember.

I too have missed several days of posting, Rhino. My old printer finally gave up on me and I had to rush off to PC World (30 mile round trip) to buy another. After something like 24 hours of wrestling to get the thing installed, and numerous cries for help to Hewlett-Packard over the weekend, I was advised that the machine was faulty. So, it was another trip to PC World to exchange it. Late last night I finally got it working. It's also a Scanner/Copier so I have to master those facilities next.
Additionally, I have been dealing with floods! After months of getting very little rain, suddenly we're having torrential downpours - and at a time when I'm having some serious reroofing work undertaken! My garage has been flooded twice, and my kitchen once - and still it rains. I know the garage will be flooded again in the morning - not from the unfinished roof, that has been tarpaulined, but from surface water which is unable to escape by any other route. The roofing guys have been highly amused to see me in kilt and wellington boots, fighting a losing battle sweeping up to 2" of water from my garage, only to have it replaced an hour or so later!
Who has time for Internet work with such as these things going on? I don't!

Sorry to hear you're having such nasty water problems. It certainly can be a nuisance. From the description of your problem, I presume that you do not have a basement. I had a similar problem to yours a few years ago and installed a perimeter drainage tile and this heped tremendously. I do have a basement that's finished off so I know first hand what a mess water can make of things. Having a house on low ground didn't help matters either. Anyway, I hope your problem is easy to fix. And have fun with the new printer/scanner.
Cheers,
blu

Rhino, come over to Australia, no body would look twice at you in an Akubra here!
Hamish, sorry to hear about your problems -floods and computer breakdowns - a bad combination.
Still, I guess it was worse in Cornwall! we all saw the footage of that coastal town, terrible!

When you haven't had a kilt on for a while and then finally get to strap one on, I think it makes the experience just a wee bit sweeter.

If Sherri and I were in the area, we'd be there pitching in as we did when our friends in the Mojave Desert got flooded.
We helped build some berms(sp?) using old tires, lots of rocks and earth to divert the next flood away from the house to a drainage ditch behind their property.
You might be able to devise something similar to keep the water out of the garage. A couple of rows of bricks and a sheet of tarp might be enough to divert the bulk of the flow without doing a major landscaping job.
Take care.

Hamish, I'm sorry to hear about your flooding. I have been through it and I am sympathetic. The sun however will shine again, then you will have to have not only the roof finished but flood mitigation...too bad we all weren't closer to lend a hand
