New brass cantle design
Here are a few shots of my latest sporran. I wanted to try this design cantle and I'm pleased with the way it came out. You can see the side by side with the last design I did a year or so back.

It has a distinctively Art Deco flavor to it. I like it!

I prefer the latest design, more flowing
And it reminds me of the cloud symbol used on TV weather forecasts!

Blupiper, It was fun! The biggest challenge was getting the bends and arches formed. Cutting the plates is pretty straight forward but time consuming. There was a lot of tweeking to get the side evenly positioned in relation to the plates before soldering. I have a few more designs I'd like to try.
Q, These designs are inspired by some of the 18th and 19th century cantles I've seen. the last is a bit cumulus shaped!
I did photograph some of the steps during the build. I'll try to post some.

Awesome! I love that you can build cantles like this and wish I could. Honestly, I love your older one that is shown, but that is the history nerd in me and I see that shape on some old ones that I have always liked.

I guess the reason I like those old ones is that they most likely were all hand made with the craftsman showing what they could do. That really inspires me and drives me to at least try to capture some elements of their unique designs. If you look back at my first brass cantle cut from a brass tray (pretty rude and crude) you can see the progression to these. With each sporran I try to push and attempt something that may be difficult but if successful produces something I can enjoy.
