    Finally, Snark.

Been kilting for over a year and while I quite expected to take a fair bit of crap over it, I have experienced only the odd stare or positive comments.

For example, on the way to Scots on the Rocks in Moab Utah last weekend, my friend and I, kilted, went to a restaurant in downtown Durango. Now we have folks around here that are genuine working cowboys and ranchers. They don't wear costumes of cowboys, they wear cowboy working clothes. A bit after we'd come in and been seated four such gentlemen came in and sat down across the room from us. We finished eating before them, I wandered off to the head whilst my companion wandered off to her nicotine. When I came out I walked right by the ranchin' table. All four of the fellers sitting there gave me the "rural man-nod" indicating acknowledgement and respect. I returned it. So it goes.

Later that weekend, we were headed off to dinner and stopped into a gas station (ironically, a Maverick) as we were walking back to the car a guy in a Ford 3/4 ton wearing a '50s brush cut haircut said in a gravel voice laced with sarcasm, "Nice legs, slick." I cleverly responded, "Thanks!" After all, I do have rather nice, manly legs. Would that I were a little quicker and had replied, "Thanks, but I don't swing that way." The irony of my first snarky comment coming on a weekend when a couple thousand kilts were in town was not lost on either me or my friend.

    Ain't life grand?

By the way, it was a very nice gathering. Some 35 clan tents, 5 (I think) pipe bands, the women's lightweight division national championships and amongst others The Wicked Tinkers. It was also nice to meet with some friends I had made there last year.
