Another Tartan on the Loom
I finally started weaving another tartan...hopefully to become the kilt I wear with my SAMS uniform.

Kilt fabric isn't the easiest to weave, but I rather enjoy it.

That is going to make a fine kilt for your SAM uniform. I do enjoy your projects.

This looks like the Kilgore tartan, except white for yellow.

I wish I had your abilities, and a loom would be helpful too!
To stitch up a kilt from tartan you wove yourself has to be amazing.....

You do absolutely beautiful work, and the photography isn't bad either!

Truitt, Can you please take a pic of your sectional beam and the lees sticks tied to the back top roller.

While i have no idea how this thing works, the woodworker in me thinks it would be a blast to build. Amazing project by the way.

I'm not sure my loom was designed for the rigors of weaving kilt-weight tartan. I sheared this high-test (grade 5) bolt. This is the anchor for the tension brake, so it takes the full impact of every beat. I guess I will have to drill the plate and install a bolt of larger diameter

Or a shorter bolt. The bolt you have snapped at the bolts weakest point. There was so much force on the long shank it gave quite a bit of lateral pull.
Bobbie's loom has a shorter bolt. The eye of the tension cable is secured quite close to the metal side plate. There is almost no sidewards angle or tension on the bolt shank.
